Newbury Road Club back with a roar this Easter

Updated: Mar 31, 2021

After a stop-start year, we are welcoming all cyclists back this Easter weekend to a full range of participation events and rides – with something for everyone!

First out will be our new programme of Women-only rides with taster sessions running on Thursday and Easter Saturday, regular mixed group rides restarting on Easter Sunday and the first Time-Trial of the season on Easter Monday.

Regular Group Rides Restart

“We are so thrilled to be back group riding” says Club Ride Secretary, Dave Martin. “There is such a pent-up demand to get out with other cyclists and the weather is set fair for it. We have rides from 25 up to 60 miles leaving the Market Place this Sunday. They are all well subscribed but we have plenty of ride organisers so anyone wishing to come along and try it can contact me we will aim to fit them in. We ride observing the rule of six and our Club app takes care of track and trace.”

Women-Only ride programme launches this week

In addition, an all-new Women-Only ride programme launches this week with rides on Thursday and Saturday morning. “Our ladies have told us that cycling has given them a huge mental boost, particularly during lockdown” explained Dave. “Our Women’s rides cater for that and, until the cafes are open again, the women organisers have built in takeaway coffee stops so there is the chance to chat and get to know each other. We have had lots of enquiries from complete beginners to triathletes. It’s a great way to meet new lady cyclists”

NRC 2021 Time Trial Season underway

9.00 am Easter Monday marks the start of the 2021 NRC Time Trial season with a 25-mile sprint along the new course between Colthrop and Theale. And, if you need some TT training, the Club is running a new weekly TT training ‘express ride’ every Friday lunchtime, one hour including warm up and warm down!

Midweek Rides

We are also restarting our group social rides every Tuesday and Thursday morning and launching a new non-stop ride on Tuesday evenings after work. Details are on the event calendar, all welcome!

Away-Days

Dave continued, “The Club has been busy planning drive-n’-ride events too. We have a busy schedule of midweek and weekend away-days including the Severn Bore, the Chilterns, the South Downs and the Isle of Wight.”

All events have been risk-assessed and are run strictly in accordance with the latest COVID guidelines.

Full details of all rides and events, how to take part or try it for free, check out the event calendar.
