Racing moved back onto the A4 West of Newbury on Wednesday evening and onto what is arguably the club’s most popular course. The 10 mile course turning in Hungerford is relatively flat and fair, and allows riders to get a good feel for their race fitness.
The event saw 27 riders take to the road on a sunny, if cool evening, with an easterly drift in the wind making the return leg a little harder. It was a good early season test for riders and some impressive times were posted.
Of the solo riders, Richard Cornes (Newbury Velo) came home first in 22m 24s just slightly ahead of the home club’s Tristan Davenne tying with Phil Watts (North Hants RC) on 22m 36s. First of the women riders was Melannie Sneddon (Torq Performance) in 23m 7s. The fastest ride overall on the night was the Tandem pair of Rachael Elliott and Ian Greenstreet (Newbury Velo) in 20m 04s.
The event was also the first for the home club riders in the club’s season long Evening Handicap Competition. Once the runes have been read and the handicaps calculated the current positions will be posted.
Some excellent photos were taken during the event by Gareth Ian Davies and Glen Knight and both sets of images can be viewed via the club’s Facebook page.
Next week we’re back on the same course and hoping for a slight up turn on the thermostat.
