For as long as anyone can remember Dave Jones was there for the Club Tuesday and Thursday cycles known as the OGRES Rides (for those that dare to ask that’s short for Old Gits, Retired, Escapers and Skivers).
In all weather, Dave turned up at the Old College Roundabout, frequently leading the ride. He never missed a gig. Fellow riders seldom knew the route in advance and Dave never used navigation. Like the back of his hand, Dave knew every road, lane and pothole in Berkshire and well beyond.
Sadly he was not there this morning. However local riders, old and young, gathered en-masse to mark the sudden passing of our Club Legend.
There was a minute’s silence to remember a fallen hero – a true gentleman, a friend, an inspiration and fellow cyclist. A few tears shed, an exchange of happy memories and then cyclists headed out on their rides.
We will miss him, but his spirit will live forever in the Club.
